Interested in being part of our next major project, Raw Materials: Plastics? We are recruiting a Community Steering Group to start late November 2018, call in at our open evening to find out more.
- Are you an east London local who’s interested in learning about your area’s history and visiting archives?
- Do you want to develop your skills and learn new skills, including writing, editing, research, website and social media skills?
- Would you like to get to know new people in your area, and work together as a group on a major local history project?
- Would you like to learn more about what’s involved in organising an exhibition and publication?
Bow Arts are looking for people to be part of the Community Steering Group for their latest heritage project Raw Materials: Plastics, a Heritage Lottery Funded project. This is a voluntary role with flexible hours, running from late November 2018 to June 2019.
Why is the project focussed on plastics?
It is a little-known fact that the first man-made plastic was invented in Hackney Wick – and other early plastics were manufactured around the Lea Valley in east London. This project is an opportunity to discover much more about this local history and to consider the role plastics play in our lives now.
The Community Steering Group will work together with the Project Manager to find out more about the history of plastics through visits to museums and archives, site visits and independent research. They will receive training on a range of relevant skills including writing and communication, creating and adding website content, copyright, editing text for publications and specific heritage skills e.g. working with archival objects, using local archives.
The Community Steering Group will shape the final exhibition, events programme and publication for Raw Materials: Plastics. The exhibition will take place at the Nunnery Gallery at Bow Arts.
Want to find out more?
Call in at our Raw Materials Open Evening on Monday 12 November, from 6 to 8pm.
Venue: Bow Arts Trust, 183 Bow Road, London. E3 2SJ.
Free event, refreshments provided.
